COMING SOON - Deadly Assumption
A generational saga of suspected homicide, love and loss, rich in history spanning continents and WW2 into the 1980s.

About the Author:

The initial inspiration for writing my novels came from listening to the seniors I have supported over the years. Their true-life accounts, and those of their parents, formed the basis for my first two novels, Olive and Full Circle.

It is interesting to note how priorities change with the surrounding environment. War-time—a time of extreme suffering, pain and financial hardship for many, yet the never-ending spirit, compassion, comradery for fellow neighbours demonstrated throughout those times is all encompassing.

Today, we live in an increasingly sterile environment—a time of commercial and technological advancement with waste and excess to the extreme, seriously compromising the very environment within which we live and require for our survival. We are becoming desensitized and alienated from each other in our quest for more—perhaps a little less and a rekindling of the spirit and soul of our predecessors might not be a bad thing?

In fact, to covet the simple things in life, such as opening a new book…

Enjoy!

About Linden

I originated from England and currently reside in Western Canada, having travelled and lived in several of this country’s beautiful provinces.

Spending part of the year in the Cascades area of the USA, I have enjoyed many years hiking the trails with my rescued canine friends and howling to the moon with the coyotes around the campfire.

SYNOPSIS

Deadly Assumption is a generational saga of a suspected homicide, never-ending love and emotional trauma, the loss of loved ones, and the fight to recapture those closest to the heart.

With a root setting in England, the story is rich in history encompassing Canada, Germany and France, spanning the period prior to World War 2 into the 1980s.

The multicultural characters are figments of the author’s imagination and evolved around an idea developed following the retrieval of a body from the ocean.

SYNOPSIS

‘Full Circle’ is a story of the indomitable spirit of a youth.  12 years old and orphaned following WW2, he follows a clandestine lifestyle on the London streets while England rebuilds after the war.

His rescue of another teen from the streets and their liaison cause him to experience the pain and intensity of first love and parenthood subsequently separating them.  Becoming a seafaring adventurer he spends many years travelling across England and Canada finally
returning to his homeland to re-claim his lost love and their daughter.

SYNOPSIS

Olive is a story of human endurance spanning over four generations; from the end of the 19th century through to WW-II, during the almost-total destruction of Southampton, a port city in southern England.

Olive is the spine of this historical novel. Ostracised at birth by her family, Olive’s life is that of an opportunist and black marketeer. She uses her sex, guile and music skills to move up, but there is a price to be paid and the children bear the cost.

Olive demonstrates the impact one woman had on those whose lives she touched.

Loved this book, the Romany culture – the storyline covering the four generations was rich in description and well worth the read. As a new Canadian author I am looking forward to further stories. Sharing this book with friends as my Christmas gift.

Olive by Linden Carroll This author has a gift for making the reader feel the pain and anguish of her subjects. She developed her characters well and made them real. The story gives us a look at how one brief moment of passion lead to the heartbreaking choice Olive’s mother had to make out of desperation and then the life of Olive begins to unfold.. It’s not what you are expecting, you won’t want to put it down and you will be left wanting more.

I found “Olive” to be an easy and enjoyable read. I thought that it was well researched and presented just about the right amount of historical content. It provided a good insight into the privations suffered by the characters during both World War eras. One couldn’t help but feel for their plight. I am eagerly awaiting this author’s next offering.

What a fantastic story! You follow an orphaned boy throughout his life as he deals with hardship, survival, and love after World War 2. I’m an emotional person, but I will still warn you that this book is a tear jerker.

This is definitely one of those books that I will forever keep in my library, and take it out to read again and again over the years.

An easy read, presenting an abundance of interesting historical facts whilst chronicling the tough times immediately following the World Wars and beyond. Above all it is a story of steadfastness and enduring love, making it thoroughly enjoyable and ultimately satisfying.

Found Ms Carroll’s second novel to be a most enjoyable read. The heartwarming tale of endurance, interspersed with nuances of historical fact. It took me on a journey of delightful discovery with her portrayals of areas travelled by the main character.
